April 8- 29th--The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) cordially invites you to “Ask the Candidates Forum” on Thursday, April 08, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Newport News City Council Chambers, 2400 Washington Avenue and on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Newport News Public Schools Administration Building Auditorium, 12465 Warwick Boulevard in Newport News. The “Ask the Candidates Forums” will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Hampton City Council Chambers located at 22 Lincoln Street and on Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Y. H. Thomas Community Center, 1300 Thomas Street, Hampton, Virginia.
The public will be given an opportunity to hear from the candidates running for School Board from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., and from 7:15 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. they will hear from candidates running for Mayor and City Council. Moderators for the forums are Media Professionals, Television/Radio Personalities and Bill Thomas, Director of Governmental Relations at Hampton University.
The protocol is as follows:
-Each candidate will have three minutes for opening remarks.
-The audience writes questions to be asked of candidates.
-Questions may be directed to a particular candidate, who will have two minutes to respond.
-Each candidate will have an opportunity to ask their opponent one question.
-Each candidate will be allowed two minutes for closing remarks.
